• Improving communication skills among managers through effective training can enhance inclusivity and accessibility in the workplace for Deaf/HoH (Hard of Hearing) employees. A recent survey showed that managers rated their knowledge of communication with Deaf/HOH individuals as limited. This training aims to improve their understanding and skills in communicating with Deaf/HOH individuals. Upon completion, participants will be evaluated through an end-of-training assessment, with a passing grade of 80%. The goal is to see an improvement in the manager's self-assessment of their knowledge in communicating with Deaf/HOH individuals.

  • The initial phase of the design process entailed establishing the learning and success objectives. The objective of the training is for the learners to be able to recognize effective communication techniques for Deaf/HoH employees in different scenarios. The success of the training will be measured by managers' self-assessment of their knowledge on a scale of 1-5, with a minimum score of 3 on the end-of-course survey.

  • The assessment design was aligned with the learning objectives to evaluate the learners' comprehension and application of effective communication strategies for Deaf/HoH employees. The assessments consisted of a combination of self-assessment surveys, scenario-based questions, and other interactive exercises. The objective was to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the learners' knowledge and skills in communicating with Deaf/HoH employees.

  • Following the determination of learning and success objectives, the next step in course design was to create a mind map in collaboration with a subject matter expert (SME). The mind map served as a visual representation to help focus and organize the course content into key topics.

  • The creation of the storyboard was a crucial step in the instructional design process. After carefully considering the learning objectives and assessments, the instructional designer, with the guidance of a subject matter expert (SME) and input from stakeholders, developed a comprehensive visual representation of the course content. This storyboard was then reviewed and approved by the SME and stakeholders to ensure its alignment with the learning objectives and overall project goals.

  • The MVP was delivered on time after a 2-week sprint of development using Articulate Storyline. The course was designed to meet the objectives and mind map created with the input of an SME and stakeholders. The storyboard was approved prior to development, ensuring the course met all necessary requirements.

  • The course effectiveness was measured using Kirkpatrick's Level 2 evaluation method, which assesses the reaction and learning of the participants. The course was also developed to be SCORM compliant, which allows stakeholders to receive valuable feedback on the course's performance and make necessary improvements. This helps ensure that the course is delivering the desired results and continuously improving.
